Obtain a Verifiable Authorisation to Onboard
How to become operational as a Trusted Authorisation Organisation (TAO).
A TAO governs an accredited segment on behalf of the RTAO. It may:
- Accredit itself to issue domain-specific Verifiable Credentials
- Accredit any legal entity to govern or issue domain-specific Verifiable Credentials
- Revoke accreditation from a legal entity that was accredited by the TAO
To be able to insert transactions into EBSI's underlying ledger, the Legal Entity must possess a valid Verifiable Credential for the given purpose.
In the case of a TAO, a Verifiable Authorisation to Onboard is required to be able to register a new DID into the DID Registry. Follow the steps below to obtain a Verifiable Authorisation to Onboard.
The following process may change depending on your use case, please get in touch with the EBSI Support Office to determine the most effective onboarding method.
Step 1. Pre-requisites
Before you can request a Verifiable Authorisation to Onboard, some preliminary requirements must be met before you can submit the request. Follow the Legal Entity DID creation guide to create a DID. An Organisation Wallet is a digital wallet controlled by your organisation and used to accredit and authorise other organisations. It is important to set up your wallet in order to gain access to the core services offered by EBSI. You can use the 'Find your wallet' tool to help you find an EBSI Conformant Wallet that best suits the needs of your organisation. Remember to tick the Accredit and Authorise capability as this capability is required for TAOs. Other features are optional. If an existing EBSI Conformant Wallet is chosen, the technical onboarding steps detailed below may be different, depending on the user experience provided by the Wallet.Step 1.1. Create DID and DID document
Step 1.2. Set up your Organisation Wallet with required capabilities
Step 2. Request a Verifiable Authorisation to Onboard
To receive a Verifiable Authorisation to Onboard (VATO), your Legal Entity must submit a request to your trust chain's TAO or Root TAO, as the VATO must be issued by one of the existing Trust Chain members.
This request should include the DID created in step 1.1. The VATO should be sent from the TAO or RTAO issuer wallet to your TAO business wallet. The business requirement must be agreed upon by all parties involved to ensure the security and integrity of the onboarding process.
Once you have received a Verifiable Authorisation to Onboard, use it to register your DID in the EBSI DID Registry before proceeding.
Follow the Register your DID guide to complete DID registration using your Verifiable Authorisation to Onboard.
